People who know me know that my prowess is not in the kitchen. I have never been drawn to cook or bake or create great art in the kitchen (although I appreciate it when others do and share their culinary masterpieces with my always eager stomach). I create works of art for folks who identify with a touch of whimsy and playfulness, using ingredients found in a tube of paint or tool shed. As I grow older, I am learning to accept all that I am and to let go of those things for which I am not. I am not a chef.

Hand in hand with this insight is an acknowledgement that there are many things I don’t know about myself because I haven’t had the opportunity to experience all the aspects of life that this world has to offer. To that end, I have been stepping outside of my comfort zone, living outside the box and trying new things in order to see myself more clearly. With this new outlook, I discovered an experience that revealed more to me about myself than 52 years of living. I hope it does the same for you!

Recipe For The Best Day Ever!

Ingredients
1 Sunny Glen Williams Day In June (the water gets a bit too shallow in July)
1 Winding Credit River in Glen Williams
1 Inner Tube (Canadian Tire carries them)
1 pair of old sneakers or water shoes
Clothing suited for getting wet and wild (I like shorts and a t-shirt)
1 or more good friends, kids or family members (increases the fun exponentially)
Sunscreen & A Well Fitting Hat

Directions
Walk to the 2nd bridge on Main Street, Glen Williams, just before Arno’s Garage. On the north/west side of the bridge, there is a well-worn path leading down to the river. This is a perfect spot to enter the river, as the water is shallow. The riverbed is a mix of sand and rock so your shoes are a must. Walk out to where the water gets a bit deeper, call on your inner hero… and plunk yourself into your inner-tube. Your feet should be dangling over the edge with your bottom positioned in the hole in the middle of the tube. Your arms will rest on either side of the tube and should be able to move freely (you will need them to help steer you away from the rivers edge and any overhanging branches…and to paddle in the shallow bits). Next, catch the current, and let the fun begin. You will quickly learn where the water moves more quickly and where the lazy spots are. Ride the river to your liking. It’s your ride, no one else’s. Your ride will be over once you go under the bridge on Prince Street and Confederation. There is a perfect spot to exit on the left side up a sandy trail (just before the shallow rapids).

Savor and experience the blend of joy, bliss, triumph, exhilaration, elation and more while discovering places in the heart you may never have visited before…or had perchance forgotten existed.
