Well… the results are in from the Glen Williams Special Meeting held before Town Council January 24th at the Halton Hills Civic Centre.  The Mayor and all Councillors (with the exception of Ward 2 Councillor Bryan Lewis) voted in favour of the Town Staffs Report recommending acceptance of the application to develop lands owned by Eden Oak Homes of Mississauga along the Rail Trail.

The meeting was well attended (a packed house) and certainly impressed upon the Councillors and Mayor the importance of their considerations to the residents of the hamlet as well as the many others who were in attendance from outside the hamlets boundaries. Thank you to all of those who showed their interest and commitment by attending, writing letters and engaging in the process.

There have been modifications made to the original Eden Oak application and it was noted that because of community involvement more progress was made towards compromise on the file than would have otherwise been the case. Please see the revised drawing showing a bird’s eye view of the development in Drew’s post.

The GWCA motion that there be public input into the outstanding matters attached to the application yet to be resolved did not pass.  However, there was a commitment made by the Mayor that staff would be directed to take into consideration all matters brought to their attention by the delegates who presented last evening and that they consider also the strong public interest and concerns in the next stage of the process. We will keep you informed on this as we receive information from town staff and our elected representatives.

The message was delivered by the GWCA that there is a requirement of Council to develop a different approach to applications of this kind in the future.  The method and outcome of the Eden Oak Application was not satisfactory to most in attendance and it is believed that future applications for development require, “Robust Community Engagement,” as one Councillor stated.

To that end… the GWCA Board and members are already hard at work today to begin engaging in ‘next steps’ to prepare for what is ahead.  As a community, it is important now more than ever, to remain engaged and committed to the Hamlet of Glen Williams and to achieving positive outcomes that honour the intentions of the residents who live here and the greater community who support the unique characteristics of the hamlet.

Sincerely,

Your Glen Williams Community Association Board
